Smyth goal sets up Louth rout

Louth 4-18 Sligo 1-7

Louth came good in the second half at Markievicz Park to run out easy winners. The Wee County trailed by a point towards the end of the first half, but outscored their hosts by 3-10 to 0-1 after the interval.

Sligo started the better, and Declan Loughnane netted after five minutes.

The free-taking of Gerard Smyth and Diarmuid Murphy kept Louth in contention, as Sligo corner-forward Ciaran Brenan fired over two fine points from play.

But Smyth's 28th-minute goal changed the game and, despite Reidy edging the Yeats men back in front, scores from Brian Corcoran gave Louth a 1-8 to 1-6 half-time lead. Goals from Murphy, Kevin McNally and Corcoran eased Louth home after the break.
