Louth opened their Division 3 campaign with an impressive victory over Laois in O'Moore Park on Saturday.
Still smarting from an O'Byrne Cup final loss to Dublin's third string the previous Sunday, Colin Kelly's charges were very impressive from start to finish in Portlaoise, with Paraic Smith's first-half goal setting them on their way.
Louth's hard running and movement off the ball caused Laois problems all night, and man-of-the-match Smith admitted afterwards it's the style of play that best suits the Wee County. "I think it's the type of team we are, we have a lot of quick fellas so we like to keep moving the ball. It worked well for us tonight, but we need to perfect it even more going forward into the rest of the league," said Smith.
For Laois boss Peter Creedon, it was a disappointing defeat after his side had showed promise in the O'Byrne Cup. "We were comprehensively beaten on the night," said the Cork man. "We didn't come here expecting that type of defeat, but Louth were good on the evening.
"We probably rued a few chances that we missed early doors, that would have given us four or five points, but we have to take it on the chin.
"I'm disappointed for the players, for the Laois public as well, but we've six games to go, so we have to battle on and keep going."
Louth took a stranglehold on the game midway through the first half, as Paraic Smith's goal saw them lead 1-8 to 0-6 at the break.
They kept pulling away in the second half too, with Andy McDonnell firing in a second goal to see them comfortably over the line with a dozen points to spare.
