Defending Hogan Cup champions St Brendan’s College, Killarney, were made to work hard for a return visit on April 1 to Croke Park, where Dr Crokes reached the club summit on St Patrick’s Day, as they needed two goals in three minutes to overcome a stern examination from St Colman’s of Claremorris in tough conditions in Cusack Park, Ennis, on Saturday.
Although the Killarney side had led by 0-8 to 1-4 at half-time, proceedings were level at 1-8 apiece after 40 minutes with the match very much in the balance. Crokes minor star David Shaw then struck for two goals in three minutes.
Eight different players scored for The Sem, who await the winners of Wednesday’s semi-final between St Mary’s Magherafelt of Derry and St Peter’s College of Wexford.
