Sean Kelly’s first-half strike proves crucial as Galway beat Sligo
Galway 1-12 Sligo 0-11
THERE was no winning start for new Sligo boss Cathal Corey as Galway came out on top in their FBD League opener in a blustery Connacht GAA Centre.
Sean Kelly’s 28th-minute goal ultimately proved crucial as Galway boss Kevin Walsh got the better of his former charges with a youthful Tribesmen side.
Peter Cooke’s accuracy from first-half frees in difficult conditions helped Galway into a deserved 1-7 to 0-5 half-time advantage.
Adrian Marren kicked three first half points for the Yeats men in response, and added four more in the second half, but Galway held firm with Adrian Varley scoring a couple of important second-half points.
