Saffrons can't live with Sligo tempo
Sligo turned on the style at Croke Park last night to win the NFL Division Three final.
At times they were awesome as they sealed a second successive decider success over a Saffron side they had beaten in last year's Division Four climax. Each time the Ulster men threatened to get on top, Sligo were able to step up the tempo, and the quality of their finishing was something to behold: 17 of their points coming from play.
Six Sligo players were on target in the first half, with Colm McGee bagging three points and midfielder Stephen Gilmartin two. Paddy Cunningham accounted for all but one of Antrim's points.
At the break, the Yeatsmen deservedly led by 0-9 to 0-5, but credit to Antrim, who narrowed the gap to one within 10 minutes of the restart, through Cunningham, CJ McGourty and Tomas McCann.
Sligo restored their five points advantage, and even after Michael McCann steered home an Antrim goal in the 59th minute, the Connacht men were undaunted.
