Roscommon prove too hot to handle

FULL-FORWARD Enda Lannon bagged two first-half goals as Roscommon ran riot in a historic contest at Croke Park.

Lannon hit his first after only two minutes, while Donal Smith also got in on the act, grabbing 1-5 as the Rossies led by 4-12 to 0-2 at half-time.

With Roscommon taking their foot off the pedal after the break, New York came more into the game thanks largely to the efforts of Shane Hogan and Niall Croke, with Hogan kicking their only point from play.

It was an experience the visitors will never forget, although the value of such a one-sided match to either team must be questioned.

A 29-point winning margin tells its own story and it could have been so much more.
