Shane Gallagher wasn't going to be left wondering and let the chance pass him by.

With his jaw still wired - he broke it in the Ulster final last month - the Red Hughs ace came off the bench and scored the key goal deep into extra-time.

Red Hughs had been planning without Gallagher, but he texted manager Seosamh Mac Ceallabhui on Saturday night to declare his availability.

"He's a warrior," Mac Ceallabhui said. "He selflessly put himself out there. I talked to him about it before the game and 'no regrets' was the last thing he said to me."

Red Hughs led the British junior champions by five points, 1-5 to 0-4, at half-time thanks to James Carlin's goal. Veteran full-forward Frank Molloy (41) led Dunedin's comeback and they were energised when Sean Malee fired home a goal.

Damien Browne looked to have won it for Red Hughs when he came back on to kick a free, but Malee converted a last-gasp free to take the game into extra time.

Alan Ward put the Edinburgh side ahead for the first time, but a goal from Donegal player Stephen McMenamin ignited Red Hughs before Gallagher, having combined with McGlinchey, struck gold.
