DONEGAL eased to a comfortable win in Ballybofey, but Ryan Rafferty's lethal hat-trick for Queen's deprived Jim McGuinness' team of a place in semi-finals as they bowed out on points difference.

A pair of Rafferty goals in the first half were all Queen's had to show from their endeavours as Donegal led 1-7 to 2-0 at the break, with Michael Murphy bagging the county side's goal.

Rafferty completed his hat-trick early in the second period. However, Colm McFadden and sub Rory Kavanagh bagged second-half goals as Donegal pulled away.

The game marked the return to action of Christy Toye for the first time since the 2012 All-Ireland final. Toye notched a point and fellow sub Kavanagh tapped home in the closing moments.
