Queen's give Monaghan lesson

Queen's got off to a winning start in Clones on Saturday against an experimental Monaghan side who played three quarters of the game with 14 men after Francis Caulfield was sent off for a second yellow card after just 14 minutes.

Queen's led at half-time by 0-5 to 0-3 and while Monaghan pulled back a point within two minutes of the restart, the students took almost total control in the third quarter to register five unanswered points to open a six-point lead against the Farney men.

Queen's then had Joe Ireland dismissed on a straight red card but they managed three further points going into the final 10 minutes to open an eight-point lead.

The introduction of Keith Hill gave new impetus to Monaghan up front, and with the numbers now even, the Farney men fashioned a fighting finish that yielded four points without reply -- three from Paul Finlay, and one from Hill to leave four between them at the finish.
