Pretenders to Royals throne state their case

MEATH will step up their search for a new manager this week.

Colm O'Rourke, Mick O'Dowd, Paddy Carr and Graham Geraghty are due to meet with the five-strong appointments committee that includes 1996 All-Ireland-winning captain Tommy Dowd, while minor boss Andy McEntee could also come into the mix.

Double All-Ireland winner O'Rourke would be many people's choice for the job but has been linked to the position before.

O'Dowd guided Skyrne to a Meath senior title in 2004, while Carr previously managed Louth and brought Kilmacud Crokes to an All-Ireland club title in 2009.

Geraghty served as a selector under previous manager Seamus McEnaney and it's thought Kerry trainer John Evans is part of his proposed ticket.

McEntee, who steered the county's minors to the All-Ireland final, has also been nominated for the U-21 manager's job.
