A first-half scoring burst set up Tipperary to see off 14-man Waterford at a sunny Leamybrien and book their place inthe semi-finals.

The visitors kicked 1-4 without reply heading towards the break and never looked in danger after that.

Kyle Shelly's point attempt dipped into the net on 27 minutes and Devon Ryan added a second to kill the tie.

A James Power goal fired Waterford 1-1 to 0-2 ahead on 10 minutes but Tipp free-taker Christy English replied with three in a row.

Shelly's three-pointer and white flags by Sean O'Connor, Eddie Daly, Keith Ryan and English put the Premier 1-9 to 1-2 clear.

Power then reduced the gap to five during the third quarter.

On 40 minutes, a Devon Ryan point effort struck the post but he drove home the rebound.

Déise wing-back Liam Fennell received his marching orders on 49 minutes for two bookable offences.
