Peter's Rourke goes extra yard
St Peter's Wexford 2-14 Col Mhuire M'gar 1-9
SUBSTITUTE Jody Rourke was the hero as St Peter's finally overcame Colaiste Mhuire in Stradbally.
In a game that lacked a cutting edge for the most part, Rourke came good at the right time, scoring 1-2 in six minutes.
St Peter's dominated possession in the first half, but Mullingar led at half-time by 1-5 to 0-6, as a Dara Lyons goal helped them recover from a shaky start.
The second half was again dominated by St Peter's, but they were repeatedly let down by their shooting and Lyons forced extra-time with a late point.
St Peter's finally raised a green flag three minutes into extra-time, Tony Smith palming to the net. Two Lyons points, however, left just one between the teams with 10 minutes left.
The game was there to be won and it was Rourke who stepped up, with his neat finish for the goal with four minutes left sealing the win.
