A deadly first half Kerry blitz paved the way for a return to an Allianz Division One league final for the first time in seven years.

Darran O'Sullivan led the charge, scoring a goal and making a contribution to the other two as the Kingdom stormed into a 3-8 interval to 0-5 lead.

Colm Cooper got the opening goal on 13 minutes after fine approach work from David Moran, O'Sullivan and Stephen O'Brien who delivered the last pass.

That gave Kerry a 1-3 to 0-2 lead which they doubled in the 28th minute when Donnchadh Walsh fielded above Seanie McDermott and eventually wriggled free, taking a generous amount of steps and turns in the process, to beat Geoffrey Claffey for a 2-6 to 0-4 advantage.

McDermott misjudged another delivery for the third goal, this time O'Sullivan getting in behind to beat Claffey who was fortunate to avoid a black card as he attempted to pull down the Kerry attacker deep into injury-time.

At one stage early in the second half Kerry were 14 points clear but Roscommon did gain a firm foothold around midfield, especially after Moran's departure, and were able to stem the tide.

It was a highly impressive Kerry performance which yielded a sixth successive league win.

For Roscommon it was a slight setback after so much progress as they met the full physical force of a Kerry team intent on healing the wounds inflicted by last year's All-Ireland final defeat to Dublin.

O'Sulivan finished with 1-4 but the movement and athleticism of their attack overall was a real feature.
