There was no joy for Kildare midfielder Tommy Moolick in the Top Oil Br Bosco Cup as his Patrician, Newbridge outfit were brushed aside by neighbours Scoil Mhuire Clane.

The impressive duo of Shane O'Sullivan and Sam McCormack led the way for the Clane side, contributing 1-12 between them as they recorded a 1-15 to 0-7 victory.

The closest game of the first round came in Moate, where the local CS dug deep to see off Athlone CC 1-9 to 2-5, while defending champions Naas CBS eased past St Mel's, Longford winning 2-18 to 0-9.

In Páirc Tailteann, a late goal from sub Niall Finnerty helped St Pat's of Navan stroll to a 2-18 to 0-8 success over St Joseph's of Rochfortbridge.

In the all-Dublin clash Coláiste Eoin recorded a 1-14 to 2-7 victory over Scoil Aodháin, while last year's beaten finalists Marist Athlone, breezed past St Mary's Edenderry by 12 points.
