O'Reilly on mark to give Pat's platform for extra push

(After extra-time)

AFTER snatching an equalising point from a Thomas O'Reilly free a minute from the end of normal time, St Patrick's, Navan eventually ran out comfortable winners at Pairc Tailteann.

Colaiste Mhuire, Mullingar, who led by two points following Aidan Keena's well-taken goal in the 52nd minute, failed to score in extra-time, during which the Navan school completely dominated, notching 1-5 as they stormed to victory.

St Pat's led 1-3 to 0-1 after 16 minutes, with the goal coming from corner-forward Ciaran O'Hanlon.

Colaiste Mhuire responded strongly, though, with five successive points to draw level, 1-3 to 0-6, on 23 minutes.

Two of those Mullingar points came courtesy of Billy Flynn, son of the former Meath great Bernard.

The hosts went in 1-4 to 0-6 ahead at the break following a pointed free from O'Reilly.

Two points from midfielder Niall Gavin edged the Mullingar school in front and they held on to that lead until midfielder Conor Nash found the net for St Pat's.

O'Reilly's late point left it 2-8 to 1-11 and St Pat's cruised to victory in extra-time, stepping on the gas to take the title.
