A masterful second-half performance in which they held their opponents to just one point sent Cnoc Mhuire into dreamland in Tang yesterday as they defeated Gallen CS to claim the provincial crown.
The Granard younsters were strong favourites going into the game, but the Ferbane school belied their underdogs tag in the first half as they played some super football, with goals from Ronan McEvoy and a penalty from Colin Kenny keeping them level at half-time.
Granard turned the screw in the second half and, with Aaron Fegan coming off the bench to hit 1-2, they held all the aces.
Fionnan O'Reilly and Rian Brady tormented the Gallen defence all day and it was O'Reilly's goal in the 45th minute that sealed victory for the Longford men.
