Clare were always expected to be too strong for Kilkenny in this Allianz league tie played at Miltown yesterday and so it proved.
A goal from full-forward Cathal O'Connor in the opening minute sent them on the way to what was a facile victory. With further goals from O'Connor and Shane Brennan they led 3-6 to 0-1 at the interval.
They were rocked early in the second half when Kilkenny substitute Michael Duggan goaled but from here on there was only one team in this contest as the home side dictated matters.
Timmy Ryan ruled at midfield and this ensured a plentiful supply of ball for the forwards. Second-half goals from Alan Clohessy and Shane Brennan saw Clare run out comfortable winners. Despite the ease of this victory there will be some concern in the Clare camp at the fact that they recorded 16 wides.
