Wicklow picked up their first league points yesterday as they consigned Waterford to their second defeat on the trot at Arklow.
Wicklow led by 0-8 to 1-1 at half-time with Waterford lacking real punch up front in the opening 35 minutes.
However, a mix-up between the Wicklow defence and goalie in the 14th minute gifted a goal to Waterford wing-back Darragh Corcoran and that brought the Déise to parity for the only time at 1-1 to 0-4.
Wicklow's Chris O'Brien, Rory Finn and Dave Devereux had chances to raise green flags but Seánie Furlong, who has come out of retirement for the league, was on song and on target as he landed four points, three of them from frees.
Waterford had the wind behind them in the second half and Dermot Ryan got them moving with a point.
However, the visitors were rocked back on their heels when Eoin Darcy fired to the net moments after coming off the bench.
Wicklow were down to 14 men temporarily after 48 minutes. And, while Waterford did cut the margin with points by Jason Curry (two frees) and Dylan Guiry, Wicklow full-forward O'Brien put a home victory beyond doubt when he fired to the Waterford net in the 62nd minute.

Limerick hold on to weather Exiles' storm
Limerick 0-8 London 0-7
After leaking five goals against Sligo, London came up with a vastly improved performance in Rathkeale yesterday but it wasn't enough to get the better of Limerick.
The home side repeated last year's one-point win as they held out in a tense finale.
While the game was dominated by the swirling wind, Limerick made little use of it early on while their opponents found the target and the game turned when London's influential midfielder Ryan Forde went off with a shoulder injury.
Having got their noses in front by the break, the home side looked to have secured the points when they led by three going into the final quarter but a spirited Exiles fightback left the result up for grabs.
London's tightness at the back meant that the Shannonsiders' forwards got little opportunity to repeat early-season form that landed them a first McGrath Cup in 15 years but, when their backs were to the wall, they showed a maturity to get out of trouble.
James Hynes, Tommy Clarke's free and Seán Hickey had London leading by three early on before Limerick found their range thanks to Pádraig de Brún. Goalkeeper Donal O'Sullivan converted a free and a '45 to equalise and Jamie Lee's free put them 0-4 to 0-3 ahead at the break.
Late on, Seán Nolan brought the gap back to one, Lee replied with a free and, after Kevin Rafferty pointed, London failed to find an equaliser.
SCORERS - Limerick: J Lee 0-3 (3f); D O'Sullivan 0-2 (1f, 1 '45'); P de Brún, S O'Carroll, D Neville 0-1 each. London: J Hynes, T Clarke (f), S Hickey, N Maher ('45'), L Gavaghan (f), S Nolan, K Rafferty 0-1.
