OBJECTIONS to a €70m redevelopment of the GAA's Pairc Ui Chaoimh stadium in Cork are expected to be lodged within weeks.

Cork County Board secured planning permission for the project from the city council last week with the project aimed at turning the ageing stadium into a rival for Dublin's Croke Park and the Aviva.

However, Cork County Board sources admitted that parties who previously objected to the redevelopment plan to Cork City Council have indicated they are now considering appeals to An Bord Pleanala.

Crucially, any such appeals will stall the construction work.

GAA officials had hoped that construction could get under way later this year.

The city council received a total of 20 objections to the stadium redesign.
