
The GAA insist that referees from neighbouring counties will still take charge of championship fixtures where there is a potential clash, writes Colm Keys.
It follows the switch of referee Derek Fahy away from the Westmeath/Wexford match in Wexford Park tonight after a question was raised by Wexford.
Fahy, from Ballymahon on the border between Longford and Westmeath, will now take charge of the Louth/Carlow fixture in Portlaoise tomorrow.
Croke Park's Pat Doherty has said the decision was based on the involvement of Trevor Smullen, a former Longford player from Ballymahon, with Westmeath, not specifically geography.
