Mulligan penalty helps Leitrim kill off challege of 14-man Sligo

Leitrim chalked up a clear-cut win over Sligo in an entertaining FBD League clash encounter at Ballinamore.
A second-half Sligo revival was seriously dented when the Yeats County were reduced to 14 players after Brendan Egan was dismissed.
The hosts put the game out of Sligo's reach when Emlyn Mulligan converted a 50th-minute penalty after Sligo full-back Daniel Maye fouled Leitrim full-forward Ronan Kennedy.
Mulligan's penalty conversion edged Leitrim ahead by 1-9 to 0-4.
Leitrim led by 0-6 to 0-2 at the break after Mulligan, Nevin O'Donnell and sub Darren Sweeney got on target.
Sligo midfielder Niall Murphy replied with points from Sligo frees in the opening half.
Leitrim went further ahead after the restart through Mulligan and Adrian Croal.
Murphy put over his third Sligo free when he replied two minutes later. But Leitrim's Kennedy answered with a similar score almost immediately.
Sligo had their best period in the game over the next 13 minutes when they held Leitrim scoreless while Murphy reduced their deficit when he converted more frees.
After Mulligan hit home Leitrim's spot kick, the Sligo momentum dropped noticeably as the home side's numerical advantage became very obvious.
Over the next seven minutes Leitrim increased their advantage with points from Croal and Mulligan.
Sligo staged a late surge when Brian Egan flicked a late goal and Eoin McHugh pointed.
