Monaghan hold off late Tyrone rally to capture first Ulster U21 title in 17 years

Monaghan 0-13 Tyrone 0-11

The future of Monaghan football is now as bright as its present as their U21 team matched their senior side in capturing an Ulster title.

Despite Tyrone's best efforts, the Farney county delivered their first U21 crown since 1999, led by Barry McGinn, who kicked six points.

Tyrone led by a single point at the break, 0-7 to 0-6, in part due to the excellent first half display of corner forward Lee Brennan, who scored five points overall.

However, three Monaghan frees to start the second half turned the tide, before further points from Conor McCarthy and Barry Kerr pushed them three points ahead.

Cathal McShane and David Mulgrew succeeded in cutting the gap to just one point in injury time before substitute Adam Treanor stepped up to restore Monaghan's two-point advantage and ensure a historic U21 victory.
