Monaghan given a harsh lesson
Ulster University 2-16 Monaghan 1-9
The Jordanstown students proved far too potent a mix for an experimental Monaghan in this one-sided encounter at Clones yesterday.
The opening 20 minutes was a fairly close affair but by the end of normal time in the first half the students had forged ahead with five unanswered points.
Mayo player Evan Regan pushed the students five ahead within a minute of the resumption but with 13 minutes played in the second-half Monaghan had the margin back to the minimum
Owen Duffy sparked the mini-revival with a point and debutant Barry McGinn then toe-poked home a goal at the second attempt a minute later.
But the contest was completely killed off by the visitors between the 19th and 27th minutes with goals from Caolan O'Boyle and Regan.
