Models weather Carlow storm
Wexford 1-12 Carlow 2-8
Wexford staved off a late Carlow challenge to get over the line at Netwatch Cullen Park yesterday.
The Model County, enjoying a marked physical advantage in the wet conditions, were the superior force in the opening half and were not flattered to lead 0-8 to 0-4 at the break.
Carlow went 20 minutes without a score and looked to be making a meek exit when trailing 1-10 to 0-6 in the 47th minute - the Wexford goal coming from a 46th-minute Jamie Myler penalty.
Then Carlow's Jordan Morrissey shook Wexford's composure, and their net, with two brilliant goals in as many minutes. When sub Andrew Kehoe levelled it with a point from play, a home win looked possible.
However, a few wayward frees and poor kicking choices allowed Wexford off the hook and points from Mick Molloy and Jimmy Sutton saw them home.
