Minchin sets hot early pace in Fantasy race

After last weekend's action, our Fantasy Gaelic leagues are beginning to take shape with lots more points on offer in this weekend's games.

All provincial replays are included in scoring so the draw between Tyrone and Down came as a great source of excitement for our Fantasy Gaelic players across the country. The top picks from Tyrone – Seán Cavanagh, Peter Harte, Niall Morgan and Darren McCurry – and Down – Donal O'Hare, Kevin McKernan and Benny Coulter – will again score points for all teams.

You can still play now and join your friends with your top players – who will compete for you throughout the summer as the GAA football championship gets into full swing over the coming weeks.

The Sunday Independent league can be selected in the Co Dublin registration and a range of top prizes await the 2014 champion – including tickets to the 2014 All Stars, a weekend break at the Croke Park Hotel and a club training session with an inter-county star.

The game is free to play and allows you test your GAA knowledge against your friends and find who really can manage their team to All-Ireland glory.

The early leader in the County players competition is Carlow's William Minchin who is well clear of many top performers from last weekend's games – Kevin Higgins and Donie Shine (Roscommon) and Laois defender Darren Strong. One of the top picks, Wexford's Adrian Flynn, has also entered the top 10 after the first round of scoring.

The top scorers from last weekend's games were: 1 Niall Daly (Roscommon) 38 points; 2 Seán McCormack (Longford) 37 points; 3 Paddy Keenan (Louth) / John O'Loughlin (Laois) 35 points

The top scorers all picked up Newstalk/Off The Ball man of the match bonus points to increase their overall scores.

Seán Cavanagh (23), Conor Maginn (22), Ross Munnelly (21), Declan Byrne (21), Emlyn Mulligan (19) and Niall McNamee (17) also landed big points for their Fantasy Gaelic teams.

The top picks for this weekend's games are: 1 Seán Cavanagh; 2 Michael Murphy; 3 Peter Harte; 4 Gareth Bradshaw; 5 Karl Lacey.
