Micko rues home discomfort
BARRY GROGAN kicked eight points as Tipperary secured a fully deserved win at Cusack Park.
Tipp manager Peter Creedon reflected: "We were solid and we'll take a win but, I suppose we should have been more comfortable in many respects.
"But we are happy enough that the guys applied themselves and next week we'll look forward to taking on Limerick."
Clare manager Mick O'Dwyer was disappointed with his charges' performance.
"We don't seem to play well at home, whatever is wrong. Overall, Tipp were the better team on the day," said the Kerry native (above).
Playing with the aid of a strong wind in the opening half, the visitors enjoyed a 0-9 to 0-5 advantage at the break.
Grogan was impressive on place-kicking duties for the Premier county – the Aherlow clubman kicked seven points from placed balls.
Influential half-forward Hugh Coghlan grabbed the game's only goal in the 60th minute when he slotted home after collecting a good delivery from Grogan.
The game ended with both teams reduced to 14 players as Aidan Maloney (Tipperary) and Enda Coughlan were red-carded following a melee close to the end.
