Three second-half points from Rioghan Meehan propelled St Ronan's of Lurgan to their first MacRory Cup title, three years after the amalgamation of three schools into one.

They got off to a smart start at the Athletic Grounds when Eoin McConville's effort was stopped with a foot block, and the resultant penalty was converted by Oisín Smyth, who is on the books of soccer team Dungannon Swifts.

St Mary's were to strike back with an inspirational display by Conall Devlin, who was upended to gain a penalty for the Magherafelt school, which was stroked home by Daniel Bradley.

Having played with a significant wind in the first half, the holders went in ahead at half-time, 1-4 to 1-3.

St Ronan's edged ahead with two early points in the second half and could have been further ahead only for the excellence of Mary's 'keeper Odhrán Lynch, who pushed a Josh Megoran shot over his crossbar.

Substitute Marc McAfee was on the pitch only a matter of minutes before his audacious effort flew over, and late on they grabbed another McConville point to allow them to breathe more easy.
