McNamee sends Rhode joint top in roll of honour
Rhode 1-14 Ferbane 0-9
Rhode are now joint top of the pile in Offaly football after they recorded their 27th title yesterday to draw level with Tullamore on the roll of honour.
The Rhode men were at their brilliant best in the opening half as they brushed aside a Ferbane outfit who showed signs of inexperience in their first county final since 1997.
The writing was on the wall from early on, as Niall McNamee kicked three points inside the opening 13 minutes to help his side to a 0-4 to 0-1 lead.
Paul McPadden found the net on 17 minutes and at 1-5 to 0-1, Rhode were already sitting pretty.
McNamee was the star turn, kicking six points in all, and he got Rhode's last score of the half to give them a 1-9 to 0-3 lead at the break.
Kevin Nugent fired over Ferbane's first point from play at the start of the second-half, but once Rhode hit back, through McNamee again, they continued to tag on scores at their ease.
Ruairí McNamee and Paul McPadden both tagged on scores, while the free-taking of Shane Nally was as good as it got for Ferbane, with Rhode leading 1-13 to 0-6.
Rhode had plenty of chances to add to the lead, but only managed one point in the closing 10 minutes as they ran out convincing eight-point winners.
Alan McNamee also equalled a record held by Ferbane's Pat Doyle, as the Rhode midfielder won his ninth senior football medal.
