Tyrone stepped up the intensity in the second half to keep alive their hopes of retaining the Dr McKenna Cup.

Their fate is out of their hands, but a 13-point winning margin gives them a fighting chance of making the semi-finals as best group runner-up.

Niall McKenna palmed home a first-half goal and newcomer Ronan McHugh rocketed in a spectacular second after the break to send the Red Hands on their way.

They looked much more engaged in the second period, their intensity, tackling and hunger up several notches following a disappointing opening 35 minutes which saw them build up a slender two points lead while playing with the wind at Carrickmore.

The home side took some time to settle, and led by just a point by the time they struck for a 16th-minute goal, Peter Harte crossing for McKenna to palm home.

Scores from Johnny Munroe, Peter Harte and Ronan McHugh kept Red Hand noses in front, but Niall Madine punched home a goal on 34 minutes and at the break the home side held a 1-8 to 1-6 lead.

But Mickey Harte's men stepped up the intensity and conceded just one point in the second half, while piling on 1-9 of their own. McHugh smashed home a brilliant goal from Colm Cavanagh's assist in the 39th minute.
