The Jim McGuinness era in Donegal got off to a winning start at a wet and windy MacCumhaill Park on Saturday night.
The defending champions led 0-7 to 0-3 at the break, thanks to some good scores from Ryan Bradley and Dermot Molloy and they maintained that advantage until the end with Leo McLoone and Neil McGee outstanding in the centre of defence.
McGuinness had just 16 players available because of sickness and injury but was happy with the result.
"We'd be disappointed with the way that we played in the first half," he said afterwards.
"We looked very lethargic but we did a bit better in the second half and Kevin Cassidy settled things down a little when he came on. He had a good impact as did Kevin Mulhern when he went in at corner-back."
