Antrim got off the mark at the third attempt with a 14-point win at Creggan.

Antrim led by 0-11 to 0-2 at the break and they might have had three goals, but Waterford 'keeper Stephen Enright, the bar and some poor finishing thwarted them.

CJ McGourty was the star man, finishing with 0-10 to his name, while Paddy Cunningham's 57th-minute goal put paid to any faint hopes of a Waterford comeback.

Conor Murray had put the Saffrons into the lead, with JJ Hutchinson levelling for the only time in the game.

Antrim then added nine points without reply, with McGourty the tormentor-in-chief. Shane Ahearne added Waterford's second point on 34 minutes before McGourty completed the first-half scoring.

After 47 minutes, Waterford had cut the gap to eight points (0-13 to 0-5), but a crossfield ball from Mark Sweeney found Cunningham, who fired home.

Michael McCann added his second point before both Brian Neeson and Kevin Niblock scored points.
