A fusion of skill, commitment and quite spectacular finishing on occasions brought Rock St Patrick's into final at the expense of British champions Dunedin Connolly's at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh yesterday.

Manager Adrian Nugent admitted afterwards that his team had been forced to dig very deep in order to come out on top.

With Tyrone double All-Ireland winner Ciaran Gourley the heartbeat of the side, Aidan McGarrity a potent scoring force up front and Diarmuid Carroll a midfield powerhouse, Rock built up a 1-8 to 1-4 interval lead largely through a fortuitous 18th-minute goal from Eamonn Ward.

Francis Molloy cancelled it out just before the break but Rock powered into a 1-12 to 1-5 lead.

And they looked to have engaged overdrive when they extended their lead to 1-15 to 1-6 before the Scottish side pilfered a second goal from skipper Brian McAteer in added time.

But it was too little, too late as Rock thundered through to the final with aspirations of atoning for their lapse at that stage of the competition in 2008.
