McDonagh on fire for Gallen

Gallen CS 6-8 Maynooth PP 1-8

A four-goal haul from Offaly U-21 panellist Aaron McDonagh was enough to ensure Gallen's safe progress to the final yesterday in The Downs GAA club in Westmeath.

Last year's All-Ireland final Man of the Match wasted no time in getting off the mark and hit his first major after only nine seconds following great approach play from Ciaran Cahill, Eoghan Lowry and Colin Kenny.

Maynooth conceded 1-3 without reply in the first 10 minutes, but rallied briefly midway through the first period. Inspired by a fine goal from Benkole Agunsoye, they enjoyed a great run of possession.

The Offaly students hit back with McDonagh's second goal of the afternoon and two more goals just before half-time from Kenny and Lowry ensured their progress.
