Three goals in as many minutes at the start of this one-sided encounter set up Galway for a decisive victory over Leitrim at Ballinamore yesterday.

Leitrim were destroyed by a Galway side full of running, passing and excellent finishing.

Danny Cummins scored the Tribesmen's first after 25 seconds, followed a minute later by Killian McDaid. The hat-trick was completed by Paul Conroy.

The home side got on the board with a point from play in the eighth minute, but it did little to halt the Galway advance, as they led 3-14 to 0-4 at the interval. In attack, Barry McHugh was top scorer with 10 points, but all the Galway forwards contributed.

Galway got three early points after the break, before Killian McDaid found the net again.

Leitrim's day of misery was completed by a fifth Galway goal from Sean Armstrong 12 minutes from the end.
