McCann earns Cargin a replay with late free
Antrim SFC final: Erin's Own, Cargin 1-10 Lámh Dhearg, Hannahstown 0-13
An injury-time free from Tomás McCann earned reigning champions Cargin a draw in yesterday's Antrim senior football final against Lámh Dhearg who for long periods looked like regaining the crown they last held in 2017.
A second-half goal from Mick McCann, which brought Cargin to within a point of their rivals, proved crucial as Lámh Dhearg had held a four-point lead at the break.
Cargin opened the scoring through a Tomás McCann free with Paddy Cunningham levelling two minutes later.
It took 15 minutes for the game's first score from play to arrive when Ben Rice stroked over, with Conor Murray landing a superb score five minutes later. Cunningham converted his fourth free before Tomás McCann ended a 24-minute barren spell for the holders.
Cunningham restored the five-point gap before Michael Magill forced Hannahstown 'keeper John Finucane into action. The Belfast Lord Mayor forced Magill's shot over the bar to ensure his side had a 0-7 to 0-3 lead at the interval.
Cunningham extended the lead after the restart but with Paul McCann driving the Cargin challenge, his team reduced the deficit to a point on 47 minutes.
A Cunningham free had Lámh Dhearg two points to the good on 59 minutes but two late Tomás McCann points means the sides must meet again next weekend.
