The injury sustained by Paddy McBrearty in Saturday's International Rules game is not as serious as originally feared.

The Donegal man was taken to hospital after crashing into an upright while flicking the ball to the Australian net. However, he was later released

It's understood that he suffered bruising to his ribs and kidney area. He took to Twitter after the game to acknowledge the Irish success.

"Great win tonight & to win back the Cormac McAnallen cup! Disappointed to have to go off but well done to the boys."

McBrearty's goal didn't stand as the whistle had been blown for a foul on him. Conor McManus scored a goal from the resultant penalty.
