McBrearty fires hosts into semi-finals
UUJ 0-14 St Mary's 1-6
Sigerson Cup hosts UUJ led from start to finish against city rivals St Mary's, with Donegal star Paddy McBrearty kicking five points to help book their place in next weekend's semi-finals.
A star-studded home side led by 0-7 to 0-2 at half-time, McBrearty nailing 0-3 from frees with Monaghan's Kieran Hughes and Tyrone duo Frank Burns and Richie Donnelly also scoring from play, while Tyrone's Ronan O'Neill hit two frees for St Mary's.
Down forward Jerome Johnston made a huge impact when brought on at half-time, scoring 1-2 from play in the second half including a superb 45th-minute goal.
They also kicked seven second-half wides and UUJ made them pay, Tyrone trio Ronan McNamee, Conan Grugan and Donnelly all scoring against the wind.
Jordanstown made a superb start to the game with four unanswered points in seven minutes and were in control at half-time.
Johnston ran with the ball from deep and jinked inside to blast the ball high into the roof of the net.
Monaghan's Ryan McAnespie scored straight from the kick-out to steady UUJ, but McKernan's point reduced St Mary's deficit to 0-9 to 1-4 after 46 minutes.
McBrearty scored a brilliant point, catching a high ball and turning smartly onto his left to score from 40 metres into the wind. McKernan forced a great diving save from UUJ 'keeper Sean Fox late on.
