Martin Breheny: Kingdom show how to pass on baton

SOME counties handle managerial changeovers seamlessly, others make a mess of it. It took Kerry just two weeks to find a replacement for Jack O'Connor, opting for U-21 manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice (right), who was also involved in the senior set-up.

It's a sensible arrangement, conducted quickly and without fuss.

Replace K with D and move north to Derry where, nine weeks after being eliminated from the championship, nominations are being sought, despite outgoing manager John Brennan apparently being keen to continue in the position.

Surely, the county board should have decided in early July if they wanted Brennan to continue.

If yes, re-appoint him; if not, remove him and take a few weeks to find a replacement who could begin talent-spotting in the county championships.

Either way, the process should be a whole lot quicker and slicker.
