Kilkenny produced their own version of the late, late show at Nowlan Park last night when a 62nd-minute goal from midfielder Michael Malone earned them a sensational and rare victory.
Wexford, who had led most of the way, looked to have secured their passage through to the next round against Cavan when 57th and 60th-minute points from Seamus O'Loughlin and Sean O'Neill left them two in front.
However, Kilkenny were not finished.
In injury-time, Graham Lawlor pumped a long ball in from around midfield and Malone rose highest in the goal area to punch it into the net.
There was barely time for the kick-out.
At the break, the losers had led by 0-9 to 1-2 having played with the considerable advantage of the wind.
