Macroom's first-half goalfest

DLS macroom 4-9

De La Salle Macroom got their campaign off to a solid start as four first-half goals set them on their way against Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh in Ballincollig yesterday.

The 2006 champions were five points behind after eight minutes, but after moving into a three-point lead by half-time, they then eased clear late on thanks to a hat-trick of fine points from Darren Kelly.

Diarmuid O'Sullivan helped CSN into a 0-5 to 0-0 lead. But DLS scored 2-2 without reply, the goals coming from Cathal Vaughan and David Horgan.

Sam Oakes struck a well-taken goal on 19 minutes to put CSN back in front, 1-6 to 2-2, but goals from Pauric Berhanue and Peter Kelleher for DLS made it 4-3 to 1-9 at half-time.

After the break, CSN spurned several good opportunities to get back into the game.
