Mackey shines as young guns star for clinical Cavan
Cavan's Sigerson Cup contingent starred as Wexford were put to the sword in clinical style at Kingspan/ Breffni Park on Saturday. DIT ace Cian Mackey was especially impressive in a Cavan attack that notched 16 points from open play.
The hosts' ascendancy was built on a dominant midfield display by Lorcan Mulvey and David Givney.
Wexford relied far too much on Shane Roche and trailed by 0-8 to 0-6 at half-time. Tommy Carr's charges kept the visitors on the ropes, with Givney's point making it 0-11 to 0-7.
Roche brought Wexford back to within a point with 10 minutes left but after Brian Malone picked up a second yellow, Cavan rattled off five unanswered points to seal the issue.
