Lyng finds top gear

Wexford 0-13
Westmeath 1-7

Ciaran Lyng was in rampant form at Cusack Park yesterday as Wexford surged into a 0-7 to 0-1 lead inside 25 minutes and held off a Westmeath fightback.

After Wexford's early blitz, Westmeath -- missing the injured Dessie Dolan -- rallied with points from Paul Greville and Denis Glennon, but Red Barry's score left the visitors 0-8 to 0-3 ahead at the break.

Two more points from Lyng put Wexford firmly in control, with full-back Conor Cooney in commanding form.

Two points each from Glennon and sub Conor Lynam kept Westmeath in touch and a late Paul Greville goal revived hopes of a rally, but Brian Malone's point secured Wexford's win.
