John Mitchels caused a surprise by qualifying for their second ever All-Ireland junior club final at Pairc Tailteann yesterday.

The first half was held up for 20 minutes following an injury to Moate 'keeper Darren McArdle, who was taken to hospital.

But the Lancashire club were full value for the win, the crucial score coming from Kieran Lynam on 41 minutes and leaving the Exiles leading 1-4 to 0-4.

Substitute Cian Bradley netted for Moate on 48 minutes and the Westmeath outfit reduced the deficit to two points before Kevin Kane shot the insurance score at the end. The winners finished with 14 men after Lynam was shown a second yellow card.

Brosna and Rock face rematch

Extra-time couldn't separate Brosna and Rock St Patrick's at Duggan Park in Ballinasloe as mistakes plagued this encounter.

A red card to Brosna's Mike Finnegan and a black to the Tryone side's Jonathan O'Donnell had a big impact on proceedings.

Rock, bidding for their first appearance in an All-Ireland JFC final since 2008, led 1-4 to 0-3 at half-time with Eamon Ward netting the game's only goal.

It looked lost for Brosna but former Kerry minor Adam Barry landed a couple of points to tie the match.

Extra-time points from Adam McGarrity and Tom McGoldrick ensured a gripping final period but neither team could get the decisive score.
