Louth romp to win over wasteful Laois
Louth 2-16 Laois 0-10
Padraig Smith and Andy McDonnell were the goalscorers as Louth ran riot in O’Moore Park and showcased a wonderful brand of football on the way.
Ryan Burns opened the scoring with Louth’s first shot. Kingston finally found the target for Laois from a free but Padraig Smith, who set up Burns for the first, kicked the two next points.
The first goal arrived in the 17th minute when Smith hit the net, and the margin was seven when Danny Luttrell drilled over with only Lynch to beat at the other end. Laois got back into contention at 1-8 to 0-6 at half time, having trailed by eight when Ruairi Moore lofted a lovely score in the 27th minute. And they would have been closer but for nine wides.
Duffy kicked an exceptional score for Louth soon after the restart, and Kingston slotted his fifth point, from a free, but Williams and Tommy Durnin followed up soon after.
McDonnell made no mistake in the 51st minute, and it got worse for the hosts when Colm Begley received his marching orders in the 58th minute after receiving his second yellow.
