Roscommon's defensive woes have been compounded with news that Niall McInerney will miss the rest of their Allianz League Division 2 campaign as he elects to concentrate on his medical exams.

McInerney is expected to be back in time for Roscommon's Connacht championship defence.

Roscommon have already confirmed that Sean Mullooly will play no further part with the team this year as he too concentrates on final exams before setting off to the US for the summer.

With Niall Collins already based in the US for another year at least, it will leave Roscommon without three first-choice defenders as they plot a course back to Division 1.

Mullooly has indicated, however, that he will be back for the 2019 campaign.

Ultan Harney and Brian Stack have picked up injuries and may miss Sunday's trip to Louth.
