Longford suffered their only defeat in their group of the O'Byrne Cup when Wicklow came away with a one-point win at Aughrim.

But Longford still progress to the next phase as group winners and face Dublin next weekend.

A Rory Finn penalty goal after 28 minutes followed by two super saves by goalie Robert Lambert in quick succession from Longford's centre forward Daniel Mimnagh underpinned Wicklow's slender 1-6 to 0-8 lead at half time.

Wicklow led twice by a point in the first seven minutes but thereafter they were dominated by the visitors who forged ahead 0-8 to 0-4 until Rory Finn's penalty conversion reeled them in .

Longford led for much of the second half but Chris O'Brien pounced for an opportunist second Wicklow goal in the 68 minute to snatch Wicklow's sole victory in the competition.
