Longford complete unbeaten campaign

Longford 1-18 Carlow 1-12 Newsdesk Newsdesk

Longford completed their league campaign undefeated following this win over a spirited Carlow side at Netwatch Cullen Park.

With full-forward Brian Kavanagh in fine form they showed why they are top dogs in the division, scoring some lovely points as they surged 0-9 to 0-4 ahead.

A superb goal from John Murphy on 29 minutes gave Carlow hope, as they trailed 0-12 to 1-6 at the interval.

Longford hit the first four points of the second half, with Liam Connerton's fisted point on 39 minutes meaning all six starting forwards had scored.

But with Daniel St Ledger and Seán Gannon on song, Carlow scored the next four points before any prospect of a shock result was killed off by a well-taken goal from Longford substitute Dessie Reynolds in the 56th minute, which left Jack Sheedy's men 1-16 to 1-11 ahead.

Longford saw it out comfortably from there - they now meet Offaly in the divisional final.

The counties are also scheduled to meet in the Leinster championship - their third clash of 2015.
