FOLLOWING midweek defeats to UCD in the O'Byrne Cup and Down in a senior challenge, Seamus McEnaney's Meath eventually secured a first win at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday evening.
Again the Royals fielded a largely experimental outfit, with former 'keeper Paddy O'Rourke operating in attack and newcomer Alan Lyons, son of the legendary Mick, at centre-back.
It's doubtful if the new boss will have learned much from this listless display against a Kilkenny side who lost by 19 points to Carlow the previous Sunday.
The game was over as a contest at the break as the hosts led 0-9 to 0-0, with the Skryne duo of O'Rourke and Ian Davis prominent in the winners' attack throughout.
Kilkenny eventually got off the mark in the 39th minute when Paul Donnelly pointed and during an improved showing they outscored Meath 0-3 to 0-1 after the restart.
Their goal in the 69th minute from Seoirse Kenny came much too late to concern the hosts, who took their tally of wides to 15 after Davis drove a penalty wide in the game's last play.
