Laois still hold edge
LAOIS were promoted from Division 2A to 1B last month and met Carlow going the other way. A year earlier, the opposite applied as Carlow came up and Laois went down.
That suggests there's little between them in a general sense, but Laois won fairly comfortably when they met in last year's championship.
Was that due to having played at a higher level than Carlow in the league? If so, do Carlow now hold the advantage for the same reason?
The answers will come our way in Portlaoise tomorrow. The one big positive for Laois this year is that they are dealing from a fairly full hand, unlike last season, when some players didn't make themselves available.
I have seen them a couple of times this year and was impressed by the organisation they brought to their game, the credit for which must go to new manager Seamus Plunkett.
John Meyler, a crafty campaigner for many a year, has done well in Carlow, who were unlucky in some of their 1B games this year. Still, Laois look to have the edge.
