Knockmore sent crashing as Filan rolls back the years Gibbons goal sinks Shrule

Mayo SFC semi-finals
Castlebar Mitchels 1-10 Knockmore 0-12

TWO late points from veteran Kevin Filan and a spectacular effort from Richie Feeney snatched victory for Castlebar Mitchels at McHale Park yesterday.

Trailing by three points with 10 minutes to go, Knockmore came back to pull level with points from Trevor Howley, Kieran Langan and Aiden Kilcoyne.

But Filan, who was red-cared for an off-the-ball incident after he fired Mitchels in front, and Feeney, squeezed two more points out of what seemed a fast-emptying tank and Kevin O'Neill's free, two minutes into injury-time, came too late to keep last year's beaten finalists in the championship race.

A goal on seven minutes from Neil Douglas was the defining score of an opening half dominated by Castlebar.

Barry Moran added two points from play as Castlebar went four clear but Knockmore closed out the half with points form James Ruddy and Damien Munnelly, keeping them well in touch, just two behind at the break -- 1-3 to 0-4.
